Twitter, officially known as X since 2023, is an American microblogging and social networking service. It is one of the world's largest social media platforms and one of the most-visited websites.
Why Isn't Tweet Anymore[edit | edit source]
- To get bird out of the birdhouse, the problem is that went starting decline when there is infamous 2019 redesign that cause major problems. And worse that Elon Musk buys Twitter for $44 billion. Similar happens when Yahoo! buying Tumblr along with Discovery buys Warner Bros. Yeah, we wish we're not kidding.
- What makes worse where users starting to leave and move on to other social sites like Bluesky. Even Yuvraj admits that how bad this website is.
- Horrific tweets/posts, filled with misinformation and downright ridiculous opinions, ranging from the decent to the utterly dreadful.
- Not to mention, the infamous "Trump will go down as one of the best president and Biden was the worst in history." is abysmal because historians never claimed that. Even made this abomination. (Depends of what opinions had)
- To add insult to injury, one user made a post that claims Clinton, Bush, and Trump are best presidents and Obama and Biden are worst presidents. What? Are you stupid?
- Not to mention, the infamous "Trump will go down as one of the best president and Biden was the worst in history." is abysmal because historians never claimed that. Even made this abomination. (Depends of what opinions had)
- Despite the site having 600 million users, there are some users that can cause mischief on the site such as , trolling users, egotistical users, users that supports illegal paraphillias (such as zoophilia and pedophilia), people that take their fetishes to the extreme, scammers, social justice warriors, and users that are solely on Twitter for the sake of harassing other users. Not only there is troublesome users, there are also outright malicious and extreme groups such as Anitwitter, radical Black Lives Matter supporters that think all white people and the police are evil, Antifa; a terrorist movement that burned building that had people inside just for fighting fascism, KickVic, a movement that ruined Vic Mignogna's career, Proud Boys; a group that was responsible for the capitol riot, and even recruitment accounts for ISIS also existed.
- Nora The Wolf is example of a pedophile, as he is a 24-year-old man that pretends to be a 16-year-old girl, implied to be once friends with Cristali, and has blackmailed people, including Cristali victims like Peachycubs. He is still on the loose on Twitter and is a very dangerous individual to be around. He is believed to have been arrested in January 2020.
- Speaking of paraphilias, there are some pedophile accounts that involve child pornography, which is a extremely serious crime in the United States. After Tumblr purged adult content from their site, most Tumblr users migrated from said site and went to Twitter to say that "pedophilia is a sexuality" or "children is a gender".
- Zoophiles are even on the site as well, as they created hashtags such as "#zoosexual", "#zeta", "#zoopride", and "#zoophilia" just for the purpose of attempting to make zoophilia a sexuality. Infamous zoophiles include marshallfox, who recorded himself having sexual activity with his dog.
- Not to mention, there are cyberbullies on the site that rarely get any comeuppance for their actions. An example of this is where they bullied a porn star named August Ames to the point where she took her own life.
- There are also impostor accounts and troll accounts as well, an example of fake accounts include GoldOldJohnnie who was a impostor account out of John Kricfalusi. A example of troll accounts include Officer Yoda, who makes SJW like tweets to other users and insults and trolls them for the sake of trolling.
- Moral guardians who act like social justice warriors usually use the site to whine about media not being politically correct in their entertainment (regardless of whether they consume it) or religious nut-jobs who freak out over LGBT representation in kids' media.
- Speaking of religious nut-jobs, they shove their religious views down other people's throats and are unnecessarily aggressive towards anyone who is part of the LGBT community.
- Twitter's character limit is limited, the word limit for most version is 280 words, but it can be severly limited on the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean versions of Twitter. So unless if you make multiple threads, this can limit your expression.
- It is a hive of several fraudulent DMCA takedowns, much like YouTube, such as the example, where a popular streamer xQc got a DMCA takedown from just showing a clip of his own stream, resulting in them banning him, as well as a user got hit by a DMCA takedown notice just for complaining about its abuse, which can be considered harassment, which is against Twitter's Terms Of Service.
- Like most other social media, some parts of Twitter's content is rubbish. According to research carried out by Pear Analytics in 2009, observing 2,000 tweets, up to 40% of the tweets consist of "pointless babble."
- Some updates on the site can make the user experience worse, this includes shadowbannning people regardless of who they are; which make the victim's tweets invisible anywhere other then their profile, forcing the two-factor onto every new account, purged tons of users on August 2018, removing the like button because of ""incentivize healthy conversation, "[1] and a feature where when you swear in a tweet, they will tell the user to rethink their reply. [2]
- Another issue is biased moderation, as sometimes talking about controversial topics can get you banned for "hate speech," whereas actual hate speech, death threats, and harassment face no consequences. Some examples of biased moderation can include the following:
- A notable example was when Milo Yiannopoulos criticized Ghostbusters (2016) regarding how Leslie Jones' character is a stereotypical black woman and a racist character, he got banned for "racism".
- Twitter also saw it fit to ban a gun-rights activist just for posting a photo of her holding dual pistols, while completely ignoring other users sending her death threats.
- Another example is when Candace Owens changed all mentioning of "white" in one of Sarah Jeong's tweet to "Jewish" to show people just how racist Jeong is, Twitter responded by shutting down Owens' account for 12 hours while leaving Jeong's account untouched.
- When the New York Post made an article about Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden engaging in shady activity so the former can win the presidential election, they blocked any user who shared a link to the article. They claimed the article included "hacked" data, even though none of the info in the article was obtained from hacking.
- The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, is allowed to remain on Twitter, despite threatening to destroy the United States over the killing of a top general.
- They ignore the fact that the Chinese Communist Party uses Twitter to spread propaganda.
- They banned a user who was aware and reported several pedophile rings on the site.
- Misandrists mostly get away with their extreme hate for men, while misogynists get suspended from the site quickly.
- Twitter is also arguably part of feminism's downfall, which now creates a situation where feminists spend most of their time complaining about extremely petty and unimportant issues while being as obnoxious and hypocritical as they can be. An example of this involves one reviewer having a meltdown on twitter over Dead Or Alive 3.
- The users there make up lies, such as that VeggieTales and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving are racist (VeggieTales has no mentions of race, while Charles Schultz fought tooth-and-nail to get Franklin into the strips), the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" promotes rape (it's just a song about a man not wanting a woman to go home because the weather is cold and a trip home would be difficult), that Rudolph the Red-#Nosed Reindeer promotes bullying (in actuality, the bullying of Rudolph in the special is portrayed in a negative light, and it also has a positive moral of embracing your special qualities) just to fit their SJW agenda. Robyn Byrd (one of the victims who accused John Kricfalusi of sexual misconduct) lied about Ren & Stimpy being the show John used to lure kids if the show wasn't for kids. Also, she lied about the John K. threats sent to her, in truth JimmySpumko is not the John K. account on Twitter and was from a troll (most possibly from an infamous YouTuber, called Geoffrey Was Here), John's old Twitter account was JohnKricfalusi1.
- Speaking of Robyn Byrd, she posted some stupid things on her Twitter account, she called John Kricfalusi fans as trolls, which is insulting and horrifying. She gave a nonsense response to LSuperSonicQ (known for making Lost Media videos on YouTube), who he accepted John's apology on Facebook. Also, she gave a stupid message to Nickelodeon Animation Studio on Instagram, just because they're liking John K. posts and gave a nonsense response to Maria Júlia when Maria exposed Robyn, due of her comment on Cartoon Brew in the article of John's apology. At the end of the comment, she called John K. a manipulator, also Maria threatened Robyn to hack her account. Still, luckily, Maria didn't do this. As a result, Maria received many hateful comments from Robyn's supporters until Maria deleted the post, and also she was blocked by Robyn. Still, Maria blocked Robyn to avoid more problems with her.
- In October 2019, they claimed that SpongeBob SquarePants was racist. It isn't; the characters don't even have racist views nor ethnicities. It also doesn't promote violence against indigenous people at all.
- The Tumblr migrants have created the idiotic concept of "bisexual lesbians" and "pansexual lesbians," and calls anyone who doesn't think they exist (AKA anyone with a brain) a BLERF/PLERF (Bisexual Lesbian Exclusionary Radical Feminist). First of all, bisexuals and pansexuals cannot be lesbian. Sure, they can have female preferences, but they are not lesbian. Second of all, what does radical feminism even have to do with lesbians, bisexuals, and pansexuals?
- There are very infamous movements on the site as well, the #MeToo Movement is a perfect example as some of the sexual allegations from the movement are mostly false just for the purpose to ruin someone's carrer. The #MeToo Movement got so bad that it led to Alec Holowka to commit suicide after Zoë Quinn (best known for her involvement with the GamerGate Controversy) accused him of sexual assault without absolutely no evidence.
- Cancel Culture is rampant on the site, and twitter's moderators do absolutely nothing about it. Most people got cancelled for criticizing groups or being accused of liars.
- Besides the annoying hashtags that trend. There's also an annoying trend where self-promotion goes on when a tweet goes viral from the user.
- They are also defending corrupt journalists by restricting the reply button to prevent "Rationing," which means more replies then retweets or likes.
- You can't edit your tweets or replies, which means if you make a typo mistake on your tweet. You then have to rewrite your tweet just to correct a typo mistake.
- They once tweeted "Not today, men" on International Women's Day.[3] This is a needlessly divisive and sexist way to celebrate what could be a worthwhile day of the year, and only contributes to Obsessive anti-feminists' dislike of anything related to women's rights.
- Fandom Discourse and shipping wars are extremely common here. They're usually started by the Anti-Shippers, who are people harass those (mostly Pro-Shippers) for doing, liking, drawing, or writing something that they see as problematic to them and would label them of supporting real-life pedophilia, incest, rape, etc.
- Hiveminds and echo chambers are common on the site as well, examples include the following.
- Minecraft YouTuber Hiveminds, mostly Dream (who became notorious for cheating on a Minecraft speedrun). Most of them are very obsessed with Dream to the point where they drew very graphic NSFW art out of him called "Dr34m". Keep in mind that a majority of his fanbase are teenagers or basically anyone under the age of majority.
- Thanks to his fanbase, Dream has become trending on Twitter multiple times, often for stupid and petty reasons such as his neck being revealed. This also leads to much more serious and tragic things being overshadowed by Dream trending on Twitter.
- Also worth noting that anyone that dislikes Dream and/or his terrible fanbase were labelled as "Antis" even though there are people that have good reasons to dislike Dream and his fanbase (although there are still some haters which are pretty toxic).
- Not to mention, some stans even drew child pornography out of TommyInnit, who is only seventeen years old as he was born on April 9, 2004.
- Speaking of which there are also toxic haters of Dream who try to cancel him over the stupidest things, usually twist his words and exaggerate the bad and controversial stuff he has done in the past. (Such as the Glowsquid, Stan Culture and Speedrun dramas)
- They even went as far as to cancel a burger (called Dream Burger) only because Mr Beast collaborated with Dream to release the burger. We're not joking.
- Also to note that anyone who is a fan of Dream is labeled as a "stan" even though there are people who have good reasons to like him.
- Twitter fandoms, especially The Owl House fandom (owltwt) and the aforementioned MCYT stans often infantilize those with autism or ADHD. #They use ADHD as an excuse to treat autistic people like brainless babies by overusing tone indicators like /s, /j, /gen, /srs, /pos, etc with them. They also call EVERYTHING ableist. If someone tells them to go outside, they'll be called ableist. Owltwt also sends death threats to those who make fake leaks of The Owl House, saying that they're ableist. This happened with Cartoon Crave on April Fool's Day, when they made a fake season 2 trailer for TOH, causing users to send death threats to them. None of these users actually have autism or ADHD, and are only pretending, so that they can all everything ableist and speak over people who actually have autism or ADHD. Also, most of these users are white, and they send death threats to two black guys who co-run the Cartoon Crave account, making them all racists.
- Owltwt promotes dumbass LGBTQ+ discourse, none of which matters in real life. Most of owltwt are non-binary lesbians who bully and exclude everyone else in the community, especially gay/bi men.
- Heck, in May 2021, white owltwt users bullied an Asian-American user for headcanoning Amity Blight'S GENDER (not her sexuality, HER GENDER, Amity is a lesbian) as unlabeled, unaware that the flag used in the picture is the unlabeled gender flag. It really shows that owltwt all has an IQ of 0.
- In January, Twitter has been sued and criticized for allegedly refusing to removing child porn from their site.[4]
- A while ago, tons of users on Twitter were making jokes about Prince Phillip's death. These jokes were both hurtful and unfunny.
- Bugs can occur on Twitter at any time, an example of bugs include when using the iOS version of Safari on Twitter, the website will refuse to load.
- Bad updates.
- They're forcing to login to allow with things like search. Which is unacceptable.
- Horrendous rebrand, with "Twitter" to "X" became the worst rebrand ever.
Redeeming Qualities[edit | edit source]
- The site has been good before it went downfall.
- All of their problems can also be said about many other social websites.
- There are still many decent tweets and tons of interesting content on Twitter.
- It offers you a chance of being close to the people you admire or appreciate.
- Like DeviantArt and Tumblr among others, there is a high chance that you may see good people there. To learn more about good Twitter users, visit this wiki.
- Some good memes originate from here.
- Nice celebrities interact with their fans there. Occasionally.
- The new layout allows you to be signed in to multiple accounts at the same time and simply switch between accounts, which you couldn't do in the old layout.
- Because of political advertising becoming so rampant and the amount of toxicity cancel culture has created, they have discontinued political advertising entirely on the site.
- You can get browser extensions that bring back the old layout.
- They finally made MAPs/normalizing pedophilia a violation of their Terms of Service, which is great, even if it took a while (which is more than can be said for Parler).
- Twitter Advanced Search is a nice way to search through a users tweets, and has many ways to pinpoint how you want to do so.
